we're ending one of the best weekends we've had in as far as i can remember! we put everything going on in our lives aside, and just spent time together as a family. this is especially rare for jon, who usually has a ton of catching up to do on the weekends with stuff around the house, etc. 

waiting for dad to be ready for the weekend & wayyyy too hot to be outside. we pulled out the tupperware, which bought me a few minutes of mom peace :)

saurday morning, lucy ran into our room yelling "rise & shiiiine!" jon & lucy were among the first customers at the donut shop- & she insisted on wearing her nightgown, glass slippers & that her babydoll come along. given that it was 7am, i figured the nightgown wouldn't hurt anything :)

after breakfast, jon helped lucy move the caterpillars to their butterfly habitat. i'm out of control i know, but i had had a lot of anxiety about this because one of the little guys was straggling behind the others to make his cocoon, and i didn't want to move the others too late, or him too early. fingers crossed that in the next few days, all 5 caterpillars will turn into butterflies!

we spent the morning at the neighborhood pool-

which wore both girls out! we went home for lunch & summer watermelon, and followed it with both girls taking nice, long afternoon naps! jon & i actually sat & watched a movie on a weekend afternoon. in peace & quiet. i'm pretty sure it's been years since the last time that happened!

we were hit with a  c r a z y  thunderstorm in the afternoon, which the 4 of us watched from the front porch- hail & all! afterwards, lucy helped set the table for dinner :)

the girls tried their darndest to knock jon with water balloons, but somehow we had managed to buy the most unbreakable water balloons ever. next time we're going with dollar tree brand!

frozen yogurt run- lucy went with pink lemonade flavor & chose animal crackers, gummy bears & marshmallows as her toppings- yum :)

we told lucy that because she had napped, she got to stay up for something extra special just for big sisters :)

she & daddy caught fireflies-

& set them free :) although she was way more interested in the bats swooping in & out of the trees :)

today we went to a late morning church service- the girls did so well, which was a breath of fresh air after last week's saturday afternoon church attempt- followed by lunch in downtown overland park. when we got home, jon watched shrek with lucy [we're prepping her for shrek the musical in a couple weeks!], while eloise & i napped. i honestly don't know the last time i napped?! but it was awesome. this july heat is just too much! jon grocery shopped, cleaned the bathrooms & made dinner this evening- seriously. he's the best teammate! so thankful for him. 

just a wonderful, simple summer weekend.
