covid19- week 63 GOING TO GRAMMA'S!

63 weeks after our family was first affected by this pandemic, our prayers were answered and we were able to safely hug great gramma helen. meme, the girls and i drove 2 days to the blue ridge mountains and were so abundantly blessed to make these treasured, precious memories. aunt chalon and uncle dave drove up from 30A, and my heart felt full the entire week long. hearing gramma's stories of growing up in a farmhouse in appalachia in the 1940's, shucking corn with her siblings, and walking over a mile to school in all weather conditions is fascinating and so very welcome. knowing my roots is something i'm truly grateful for, and our daughters getting to plunder around her 1970's ranch and find toys i'd left behind on childhood trips is priceless to me. we had no screens all week, and the girls made their own fun- experimenting with how long it took crayons to melt on gramma's driveway, arranging wildflower bouquets and running timed races around the house made for sunny, fun days and contented, sleepy nights.

gramma told me, "with the time i have left, i want it to be happy. and i sure hope to be alive to see my great-grandkids get married."

covid19- week 62

school's out for summer, and this mama could not be more ready! the girls had an absolutely awesome, rewarding, in-person school year, and along with that, the mental weight of the pandemic and all the changes our family has had this year- our move, jon's role change- has me completely exhausted and ready for an easy, fun-filled, laid-back summer! a little camp, a little dance and theatre, a lot of travel, enjoying our house and swim-filled days is what our next 2.5 months looks like-

we leave tomorrow for the blue ridge mountains and great gramma helen, where time stops and there's always an ice cold dr. pepper ready.
