t w e n t y n i n e t e e n !
our new years' celebration was so nice. meme hosted matt, laura and our precious newest nephew, along with our crazy crew. there was pink champagne cake, black eyed peas for good luck in the new year, balloons and c o n f e t t i [oh, the confetti!] that we are legit still finding hidden in the carpet, bedding and everywhere else you can imagine! the girls had the absolute best time ever and have asked many times if we can celebrate new years' eve every year ;)
lucy & eloise headed back to school at the end of last week, jon headed back to work, and just like that we're back in the swing of things.
every month, lucy earns a free personal pan pizza from pizza hut, as part of their reading rewards program that's been around since the 1980's. given that cheese pizza ranks as lucy's favorite thing to have ever graced the planet earth, she takes these coupons vvvv seriously. this program made much more sense in the 80's & 90's when there was a 648.8888 on every corner; however, in today's world, not many dine-in pizza huts still exist [so i've learned], and if they do, it literally feels like you're taking a step back in time a few decades- original tables, carpet, benches, bathrooms, salt & pepper shakers...
the first month lucy came home with this coupon, we went to the first dine-in pizza hut we could find. few and far between. the girls had so much fun & lucy was so proud to have "earned dinner for the fam" but jon & i left saying there was no way we'd step foot in this establishment again. he was confident that a new ken-taco-hut had just been built, so the following month, we'd planned to dine there. is this even real life?
fast-forward to the next coupon. we'd planned to fine dine at the ken-taco-hut for friday night dinner, passing several of our favorite local pizza restaurants along the way. we pull up, and my awesome husband who had been so confident in the brand new ken-taco-hut, was now equally mistaken, as no- this was no ken-taco-hut. this was simply a ken-taco.
we google & call the closest pizza hut, talk with an employee and confirm that yes, this location is a dine-in pizza hut. come on over! we trek across the city with now starving children, unload them in the freezing january temps, walk into the pizza hut to immediately discover... ohhh no. this ain't no dine-in location. at this point i'm hell-bent on cashing in this reward and getting lucy that damn personal pan pizza she read for every day in the month of december!
we're assured that just a few miles up the road [in rush hour traffic with 3 hangry kids], there's a dine-in pizza hut. i ask for salad crackers to get our ravenous children through the drive [& maintain my sanity]; however, this location no longer serves salads, so there are no salad crackers, but here- take these coloring sheets.
up the road we go. we arrive at the long sought after dine-in pizza hut that is an exact replica of our original yuck factor dine-in hut, and it is here that we finally order our dinner [oh, look we're 1 of only 2 filled tables on a friday night! we practically have the place to ourselves!] , only to be told that we're sorry for the inconvenience, but we're out of personal pan pizzas.
lucy thoroughly enjoyed 4 slices of cheese pizza from a medium-sized pizza hut pizza that night.
the things we do for our children.
xoxo,
