backyard water fun with colton- what's better than a summer ball-pit?!?
it was a hot week- perfect for mixing up my favorite summer salad! my mom has made this my whole life- she first got the recipe as a 1970's military wife living in texas-
prepping for the 4th at meme's!
while lucy joined meme for a tea party complete with cucumber sandwiches & LOTS of sugar :)
i've been loving opening the deck door & letting the girls go in & out to the water table as they please- this usually buys me enough time to empty the dishwasher, put the finishing touches on dinner or wipe the kitchen counters for the 50th time that day-
had to snap a pic of lucy's farrah fawcett hair that greets me each morning :)

& onto our 4th festivities!
we started the day by going to the lenexa parade! such a fun tradition that we all look forward to. we had the perfect weather!
we walked from my mom's, which is a mile or so away, with our star spangled stroller :)
lucy LOVED the parade & spent the entire time going back & forth between waving her "big girl" flag & holding out her goody bag to collect candy ... she made out with 2+ bags!
eloise strutted around looking red, white & cute :)
we had both girls nap [with the promise to lucy that she'd get to stay up late & go to the fireworks display!], then grilled with neighbors in the evening-
afterwards, jon & i got eloise to sleep & my mom held down the fort while we took lucy to her first fireworks display! this easily went down as one of my favorite evenings ever with her. she was so excited & so proud to have mom & dad to herself for the fireworks show! we sat in the back of my car with the tailgate open, snacked & lu shared her "magic fireworks glasses" with us that she earned from the library. they actually were super neat, turning each firework into 9 different 3d ones!
when we got home almost 3 hours past lucy's regular bedtime, she kept telling us she was NOT tired ... up until she crashed for the night & is still fast asleep at almost 9 the following morning :)
