i'm home from what was a true dream of a trip! steel magnolias easily goes down as one of my all-time favorite movies- right up there with gone with the wind. it's the movie i always have playing in the background- the southern women with their quick wit & big hearts is the ultimate comfort. i've always wanted to visit where the movie was filmed- the shots are breathtaking, particularly the opening scene with the massive oak & magnolia trees & pink crepe myrtles- and pretty much as soon as all 3 of my girls were big enough for me to slip away for a few days, we started to plan this adventure!
we flew into dallas, then headed out on our 4 hour drive to natchitoches, louisiana [stopping in miranda lambert's hometown of lindale, texas on the way!]
the actual home many of the scenes were filmed in was just beyond. the very first place i skipped to was, of course, shelby's soaking tub!
an amazing breakfast was prepared for us by true southern ladies who set the most beautiful table. i was so appreciative to just sit & drink coffee in this amazing place :)
we took a tour of the movie sites around town & all of my burning questions that have built up through the years were answered ;)
we ate & drank the best, shopped & so enjoyed our time together. it was a bucket-list weekend for sure.
& meanwhile back home-
the girls had so much fun with their daddy- swimming, a soccer game, learning to play air guitar...! i arrived home to dinner & wine, folded laundry, a clean kitchen & open arms. what more could i ever wish for?!
