our lucy jane is 9! it's so crazy to think that this hardworking, task-oriented, tender-hearted human is halfway through her years at home. i am truly so proud to be her mom, and it's a deep joy to watch her develop into an inclusive, aware, goal-setting young woman. i can't wait to see where these next 9 years [and beyond!] lead her- where she chooses to take her life.
i have no doubt, however, how she will live it.
lucy's birthday celebrations started on friday. she was so excited to bring treats to school, and head to family bowling when the day released. saturday she woke up to dad-made waffles, treasures, "a big volleyball game" as she always likes to say, and the rest of the day with friends- rock climbing, pedicures and a glow in the dark party for her first sleep-away with the sweetest group of girls! i've always said i'm "not a sleepover mom", but i'm learning that parenting isn't black or white, and like life, decisions are ever-evolving based on what's best for your particular child at that particular point in her life. for her birthday, jon and i gifted her a watch that she can text/call us and her grandparents from + has a gps tracker. it's as much for me as it is for her! she's in enough rehearsals and dance classes away from us + consistently shows self-discipline, so we felt that in today's world [which is so different than the one we grew up in], this is a great next step towards "controlled independence". it was nice to be able to log into the app and keep tabs on her while she spent her first night away with friends! and it was very funny to be out to dinner on her birthday, the 4 of us, without her.
on cloud 9 to be 9!
fall has arrived along with all the fall things. we're in a sweet spot. a busy one, but a beautiful life season-
